BJP disowned Jaswant Singh, by declaring that his views on Jinnah were the personal views of the Jaswant Singh.
Mr. Advani called Mr. Jinnah secular, in the past. He had to mellow down later, to retain his position in BJP.
The top leaders in BJP frequently face the problem of how to win the confidence of the Indian Muslim voters. Such leaders believe that by declaring Jinnah as innocent and secular, they can fish for Muslim votes. But the 'pure Hindutva' supporters in BJP and the RSS make them to close their mouths.
The real question is not whether Advani and Jaswant Singh are right. It is: Why not they resign, if they have strong convictions about what they say about Jinnah?
Mr. Jaswant Singh may be under pressure from his publishers to add something which will create an uproar in the public, so that copies may be sold out quickly in the publicity wave. Jaswant and his publishers can go laughing all the way to the bank.
