036 Now it is the turn of Ms. Smriti Irani to play with Indian HRD

Political leaders of all hues i.e. UPA, NDA, Left Front, Third Front etc. tend forget that Governments are elected for a tenure of five years or 1826 days.

1826 days is too short a term in the history of any country, not to speak of India. Technically, Govts. elected for 1826 days can take measures which ought to pertain to short-time-span results. Complex issues involving sweeping changes will have to be discussed among spectra of political parties, over the long-range impact, the proposed changes will cause. Once these issues, changes needed for correcting them, methodologies to be used for implementing the proposed changes, are consensually agreed upon, the incumbent Government implements them, drawing support from the opposition parties.

After the 1826 days, if the Government changes hands, the consensual paths and programs already agreed upon are carried forward by the succeeding Governments, thus providing a direction, magnitude and trajectory to the overhauling.

Thus overhauling of Indian HRD should not be left alone to NDA, or Mr. Narendra Modi or Ms. Smriti Irani.

Ms. Smriti Irani's Educational Qualifications

It is strange that Mr. Narendra Modi has chosen a TV actress who has just completed XII Standard, as an All India level HRD Minister, ignoring acclaimed Professors like Mr. Murali Manohar Joshi and Mr. Subramanian Swamy. Ms. Irani may be a great actor. She might have lived in the mythological role of Sita in Zee TV's Ramayana 2001. Producing TV shows is both quantitatively and qualitatively different from accepting to mould the future of 1200 million Indians by raising their skills.

Though it may be true that the educational credentials of Mr. Rajiv Gandhi, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, Ms. Priyanka Vadra, may not justify their elevation to high-level posts, these errors or failures of UPA cannot justify the NDA to make fresh errors. Ms. Irani has to do a lot of home work (I am not speaking about degrees and formal examinations), to covet an appointment to mould the HRD of this Nation. For that matter, even the educational credentials of Mr. Narendra Modi also need greater public whetting. What we study in B.A. History, and M.A. Politics in University Distance Education syllabi and the system of scoring 40% marks (knowing only 40% of some five questions which form 50% of 10 questions given) does not add much information or skills to a degree holder, unless he makes a personal special private study within and outside the syllabus. Education is a continuing process. Formal degrees are like commas, semi-colons and colons. There can never be a true full-stop to learning process. With Ms. Irani's activities focused on TV films, and Mr. Modi's activities focused on arranging and addressing parties rallies, it is highly unlikely that they would have studied in depth the HRD needs of this country.

It is not clear why Mr. Modi chose to ignore Dr. Subramanian Swamy and Mr. Murli Manohar Joshi and how/why he chose Mr. Irani for the job.

Then Ms. Irani has the audacity to say 'Watch my work and not my qualifications' and to boast that she is going to overhaul Indian HRD.

It will be for the public to study into and review how some ladies leap up very fast in organisational ladders, in spite of their lacking minimum education, performances. Glamor is nothing but packing for a product. How about its intrinsic worth? It needs investigation, on how BJP top leadership got swayed and gets swayed by film and TV glamor.
